A rural retreat for 2 down a quiet country lane. An architect-designed barn conversion with stunning views from a balcony onto the quaint town of Wirksworth in the Ecclesbourne valley below.
A cosy conversion with wood-burning stove and underfloor heating. All facilities: microwave with grill, electric hob, healthy grill, TV / DVD, electric shower. Twenty minutes walk into Wirksworth for shops, restaurants and take-aways. Five minutes walk from the friendly local pub.

The Croft is an architect-designed conversion of a 300 year old former cowhouse and barn, now saved from collapse and renewed as a luxurious holiday home. The property is on two floors ; downstairs a dining kitchen and well-appointed shower room, and upstairs a living area with a wood-burning stove and double futon bed / sofa. Perhaps its most interesting feature is the galvanised steel quadrant-shaped balcony, where guests can sit and have an alfresco drink whilst watching the sun go down, sitting at the bistro-style table and chairs.

The Croft is situated along a secluded, quiet country lane cul de sac, used only by the few people who live along it. It has its own private parking space and is totally separate from the owners-house which is nearby. There is a wonderful variety of wildlife here. At dusk tawny owls are often seen, and badgers and foxes too can be spotted.
The Croft is ideally suited for a couple for a romantic break. From the door of the Croft a footpath leads down across the fields to Wirksworth - a twenty minute stroll, and it is an easy walk to a local viewpoint, Alport Heights from where on a clear day you can see 5 counties. The owners are also able to provide mountain bikes for guest use, again free of charge, which give access to the towns of Matlock and Matlock Bath just a few miles away. Other nearby attractions include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Kedleston Hall, Carsington Water and the famous Peak district towns of Bakewell, Castleton with its Blue John mines, the Georgian spa town of Buxton, and Chesterfield with its crooked spire. The whole area is a paradise for walkers and outdoor types, with rock climbing at nearby Black Rocks.
